Report from November 30, 2024
We went for Cardiac Ridge within the Wasatch Mountains, UT, on Saturday.
The climate was heat and sunny with a slight breeze once we left the automotive round 9am.
Up and over Cardiff Cross with out incident.
Throughout and down into the headwaters of Cardiff Fork.
We gawked throughout and there have been fairly few tracks on Cardiac Ridge.
We known as an audible and went for the north face of Mt. Superior.
It took about 3 hours to get into place slightly below the summit chute.
We’d achieved some snow checks and the north going through snowpack had a fierce rotten layer (sides) down on the rocks about 2 toes down.
To us it was clear:Â Â
- Keep away from excessive, north, steep, rocky zones
I selected the skiers proper facet of the face and dropped in first.
Wham!
Clubbed a rock on the primary flip…
My confidence was poor however the snow was glorious.Â
I used to be cringing on each flip anticipating one other rock strike.
I hit another rock close to the underside.
Dammit.
Skis had been OK, however man, it’s powerful to completely benefit from the powder when you recognize you’re snowboarding by a shark tank.
There was another pitch right down to the place we’d begin skinning once more and this snow was really epic.
Creamy, spongey snow on prime of a dense bouncy home layer.
Phenomenal snowboarding for one more 20 turns or so.
From there we skinned uphill and downhill again to Cardiff Cross.
From the cross down was pure survial snowboarding with just a few enjoyable low angle powder turns.
I’d gotten again to the automotive having harvested 43 nice powder turns and I didn’t harm my skis.
I chalked that up as a win.
This was my final day attempting to make the Wasatch backcountry work.
Now, it’s off to Tahoe to get as bizarre as potential at Palisades Tahoe for a few weeks whereas all of us look ahead to the following snow cycle to start out once more.
Which could take some time…
After snowboarding I rolled into The Gear Room, dropped off one other pair of Scott skis (Pure 115s 189cm) and used my in-store credit score from earlier ski gross sales to refresh my glacier journey/crevasse rescue package.
Late evening my spouse and I checked out the brand new Hyatt on the new Deer Valley East Village.
Nice meals, excessive costs, nobody round.
Thanks, Utah!
