Report from June 1, 2024
I used to be exhausted the previous week after snowboarding 461 of the previous 541 days.
Yesterday was no exception.
I looked for a simple one.
One which wouldn’t finish me…
Black Mountain in Virginia Lakes appeared good.
- Summit (truly a ridgeline): 11,700 ft
- Automobile: 9,800 ft
- Vertical From Automobile: 1,900 ft
- Vertical skied: 1,400 ft
- Max Pitch: 40º
- Common Pitch: 35º
- Side: Northeast
- Distance: 4.9-miles spherical journey
- Time From Automobile to Summit: 2 hours & 34 minutes
- Automobile to Automobile Time: 4 hours & 42 minutes
- Beneficial Tools: crampons, ice axe x2, skins
The plan was to satisfy up with an enormous crew at Mono Market in Lee Vining for “Monoritos” at 8:30 a.m.
Eight Homo Sapiens & 2 Canis Lupus Familiaris confirmed up for it.
Tall Carl, JZ, Natalie, Greggy, Martin, Trevor, and myself within the Homo skinsuits.

We poured onto the path in the direction of the north face of Black Mountain from the Virginia Lakes parking zone at 10:30 a.m.
The tour was a mild one.
About an hour on an incredible path dropped us proper on the backside of the North Chutes.
We selected the obvious and snowy chute and began up.
We did pores and skin a bit however you would have simply booted the entire thing.
Everybody beat me to the highest.
I used to be dragging…
On prime, we had a vicious hold.
We have been possible up there for about 40 minutes on the summit simply BSing and taking within the views.
Heat climate, no wind, beautiful.
It was a good way to spend the final summit of the spring.
We did finally drop in and the snowboarding was good, mushy, and fairly bumpy.
The solar cups are undoubtedly beginning to kind.
We skied all the way down to Cooney Lake and transitioned again to footwear.
The stroll again to the automobiles on the path was simple breezy lemon squeezy.
We loaded up and headed to Mono Cone in Lee Vining for burgers, fries, shakes, and ice cream.
It was my first and solely Mono Cone of the spring and it didn’t disappoint.
