This report in from Jim Clohessy of TopFisher.eu:
Wednesdays run was some time within the planning. All summer time Alex and myself didn’t get a day fishing however the climate and work aligned for us this week and the plan was set in movement. Again to the wrecks we’d go. In fact we’d need to catch some contemporary mackerel too. These proved to be a wrestle (they shouldn’t be). However we had been dropping helpful fishing time on already shortened days.
Fortunately Alex packed just a few mackerel that he had frozen down. This proves to be a visit saver as after 90 minutes we had solely 4 small mackerel.
We cruised offshore at a gentle 24 knots in gray however pretty circumstances. Wrecks will be unusual locations to fish. Some can seem useless and spring to life… generally the chew can swap from manic to nothing in a second.
Our wreck was gradual to get going. I used to be fishing huge baits on a single hooked paternoster. The drift was gradual within the weak wind and tide. It saved on sort out losses. Alex had just a few high-quality fish earlier than I acquired off the mark.
On my second fish I assumed I noticed a flash of blue underneath the boat. The following fish confirmed the presence of a marauding shark. It managed a very good chunk from my fish, a very first rate ling.
On the following fish we counted three extra blue shark – Alex was grabbing for my heavy popping rod (Penn Battalion with Slammer 8500). Free lined bait was sufficient… a lump of ling guts (we had been quick on mackerel). He had an incredible tussle with two sharks. It was some chortle and craic. Blues can battle nicely. These had been hit early they usually fought like demons. At one stage we thought a blue was going to assault a hooked shark – blue on blue if you’ll. Alex fought them aggressively so there was no wrapping.
They had been each bruisers of shark and the second would threaten the specimen size. We selected the extra prudent course of releasing along with the boat. Shark – one other annual itch scratched for Alex. I have to say the sharks appeared notably lively (learn: cranky) and actually aggressive. The water temp was simply touching 13°. After two tremendous fish the skipper wished to return to the wreck.
We went again to our wreck and tried the world round in search of smaller species. Our bait scenario was determined so we determined to go to attempt some deep floor a bit extra inshore. A spurdog and the smallest doggy we’ve ever seen later, we had been working out of sunshine.
Within the early a part of the day there was not a lot life about. Quickly there have been tons of dolphins. The gray circumstances made it onerous to see birds working at distance.
It’s November. It’s nonetheless delicate. There’s loads occurring on the water. We’ll not declare it winter but!
