Report from January 14, 2025
Yesterday we rolled out to Revelstoke at about 9am.
The Selkirk Sea (low river valley clouds) was kickin’ down low and skinny clouds had been driftin’ up excessive making a basic BC cloud sandwich.
We had been snowboarding some superb groomers inbounds once we noticed an enormous gap growing within the higher cloud layer to the West.
We threw on our packs and bounced outta bounds into the sidecountry hoping to hit the cloud gap excellent.
The solar beginning piercing the clouds illuminating the peaks to our south and west.
We labored rapidly skinning and snowboarding to get out to our goal bowl.
As we crested the ultimate ridge, the outlet within the clouds was closing.
Buckling, cinching, adjusting, clipping-in in a fury.
Fast plan.
Fast drop.
Smoooooth pow.
Tight turns by means of small ghost timber to begin then massive, wide-open activates the apron.
Gliding to cease I felt how drained I used to be.
- The longest run of my life (10K) on New Years Eve
- The longest drive of my life (13.5 hours) on New Years Day
- A giant tour within the Kicking Horse sidecountry on Jan 2
- 7 days of three,500-vertical-feet of backcountry snowboarding (Jan 3-9)
- 2 ski days at Revelstoke
- 1 big day within the BC backcountry
- 1 day within the Revelstoke backcountry
2 brief skins and we had been again in bounds for a 4,000-vertical-foot groomer.
My quads felt like they had been going to blow up…
This place is humbling.
On the high of the gondola we acquired a burger on the MacKenzie Outpost.
C’est magnifique!
Thanks, BC!
