Backcountry Skier Dies in Avalanche Close to Arolla Ski Resort/Espace Dent Blanche, Switzerland

A 27-year-old Swiss man tragically misplaced his life on Friday, December 27, whereas backcountry snowboarding close to the Glacier de Cheilon within the Arolla area of Switzerland. The incident occurred round 1:30 p.m., as the person and his companion traversed in the direction of the Pas de Chèvre, a well known mountain route marked by its steep iron ladders, which cross the rock face, and rugged alpine surroundings. The Pas de Chèvre is a part of the Haute Route, the legendary high-altitude route that hyperlinks Chamonix, France, to Zermatt, Switzerland. The Pas de Chèvre is a notable part alongside the Haute Route and sometimes thought of to be probably the most memorable, if daunting, passages on the Haute Route.

The pair have been sustaining a secure distance from one another when a snow mass abruptly gave means beneath the sufferer’s skis, triggering an avalanche. The cascading snow carried him down the slope, burying him beneath its weight. Emergency responders, together with a helicopter crew from Air-Glaciers, arrived promptly on the scene. Rescue specialists and avalanche canine handlers shortly situated the person beneath the snow and initiated resuscitation measures. He was airlifted to a close-by hospital however succumbed to his accidents shortly thereafter.

Authorities, together with the Valais Cantonal Police and the Cantonal Rescue Group, responded swiftly to the incident. The prosecutor’s workplace has since opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the avalanche.

The Arolla Ski Resort/Espace Dent Blanche, situated within the Swiss canton of Valais, is a small ski resort with 5 ski lifts and 50 kilometers (31 miles) of ski runs.
